I had a call from C's lawyer and we have a court date for her legal name change! The phone call came just a few minutes ago and I find myself shaking and teary - this is it. I'm so excited for her and, simultaneously, slightly melancholy. J will be gone and C will legally emerge. That's a lot to take in.
Our lovely lawyer, also a trans woman, managed to get the judge to waive the notice in the newspaper so there will be no public declaration or google search results. That's huge, particularly because this judge has apparently never waived publication. She says the rest should be smooth sailing and we will have legal documents before school starts so C can start high school with her new name.
While the reality of this will take a few days to process this, as the lawyer said to me, this will be a joyous occasion!
